Support the Mo-vement

Each year, thousands of men around the world grow out their moustaches to support the Movember movement. At C2 we’ve got a few #MoBros participating to raise funds for the Movember Foundation. Far too many men die prematurely due to cancer and mental illness. Men need to be encouraged to look after their health, they need to know that ‘toughing it out’ is not the only option. You can donate to the cause here.

Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention are some of the few things we can help prevent in men’s health. Our C2 team is raising funds and awareness this Movember so please help out and donate to support men’s health.

I think Movember is a great initiative to poke a bit of fun at each other (and yourself) all while raising awareness and a few dollars for a great cause. I know I tend to put my own health on the backburner a lot of the time and I’m sure a lot of other guys do the same. The statistics don’t lie and early detection is the key to increasing survival rates – so it’s cool to be part of trying to make a change.

This is my first time taking part in Movember, not for lack of interest but admittedly at 24, my mo has only just become worthy of the cause. Movember is important to me because I used to be the typical stubborn young man that thought I was invincible. Turns out that is not the case. I found out the hard way and I want to do my part to help other men avoid that situation. Also, I must say this mo is growing on me – pun very much intended.

What is Movember?

Movember is a men’s health initiative started by our mates across the ditch. The aim is to raise awareness about men’s health issues and funds to improve the health spans of men across the world. On average, men die an estimated six years earlier than women – largely from preventable causes. By 2030, the Movember Foundation aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 percent.

What can you do to help?

It’s pretty simple; grow your mo and/or donate to the cause. Your donation can be big or small, but every dollar helps improve men’s health. Encourage the men in your life, friends and family to make their health a priority – whether it’s physical or mental health. Change your language, terms like “harden up” or “suck it up” don’t do us any favours and it encourages men to try and tough it out. With advancements and more accessibility to modern medicine, men need to know it’s easy to manage their health – it doesn’t make you soft, it makes you strong and helps you stick around longer for your loved ones.
